How Long Does It Take to Get Porcelain Veneers?

When you receive your porcelain veneer depends on whether we can proceed with a chairside fabrication or a lab-fabricated veneer. A chairside fabrication results in immediate delivery. If we need to send your impressions to a lab, we will need a few weeks to return your new veneer.

What Happens During a Porcelain Veneer Appointment?

Before your appointment, you will discuss whether you need dental sedation for your veneer procedure. Then, during the preparation appointment, your Anaheim cosmetic dentist will:

• Numb your teeth and gums
• Check the shade of your teeth to match the porcelain to your natural shade perfectly
• Remove a tiny bit of enamel from the front surface of your tooth/teeth
• Take an impression of the tooth/teeth
• Make strong plastic, tooth-colored temporaries if necessary

Who Is Not a Good Candidate for Dental Veneers?

Patients with cracked or fractured back teeth are not good candidates for veneers. They will need dental crowns instead to support their teeth.

Additionally, patients with gum disease or who aren’t practicing good home care might not be good candidates. Your dentist will inform you whether porcelain veneers fit your needs at this time or if a deep dental cleaning or other dental procedures are required first.

Patients who use their teeth as tools might not be a good fit, either. Dental veneers can come off if you use your front teeth to bite through things or are prone to biting your nails.

Those who smoke and chew might not be good candidates, as well. Tobacco use can make you more susceptible to decay and gum disease. Plus, it can lead to discoloration of the porcelain or staining around the margins.
